Sampling from Youtube?

This is an old debate and I have a clear stance in my view of sampling records from youtube. I HAVE NO problem with it at all. In the end the listener wont even notice so why make it an issue. I know some purists wont agree and say its not "real" what ever that means. Anyway, the phenomenon about sampling from youtube is real and beatmakers do it every day and I think its a great option for those that don't collect vinyl records. Maybe you don't have space for it, the money for it, the reasons can be many hence why youtube is a good place to dig.

One thing I can sort of agree about is that if you find a real goldmine of a channel on youtube, keep it to your self. Same goes for collecting vinyl, don't show of the samples. Let the people dig, dig for them selfes and find their own way.

The positive thing about actually collecting vinyl and sampling straight from record is sound quality (depending on your gear) and just the share fun of having physical media.

Having a collection actually looks good in my humble opinion and ads to the atmosphere of the studio and is really inspiring.

One thing I'm NOT a fan of how ever is samplepacks, drums I can deal with but packs containing pre-chopped samples is something else. I mean, where is the fun in that? Feels like someone already made both the choice and job for you. But to each their own. / Sam Pell
